IGAD Ministerial Conference on Education for Refugees, Returnees Kicks off in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, March 28, 2022 (Walta) – The 3rd IGAD Ministerial Conference on Education for refugees, returnees, and host communities has been started in Addis Ababa.

In her opening remarks, the Director of Health and Social Development at IGAD, Fathia Alwan said that member countries in partnership with are actively engaged in the implementation of the Djibouti Declaration on Education for Refugees, Returnees, and Host Communities.

IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu (Ph.D.) said that he is gravely concerned by the escalation of the situation in SouthSudan.
He calls on the leaders to restore calm, respect the terms of the peace agreement, and call on the IGAD Assembly to use its leverage on the parties to restore peace.

The conference is being held under the theme “Inclusive Education for Refugees, Returnees and Host Communities” in the presence of education ministers of member states.
