Inter-ministerial Task Force Discusses Transitional Justice Options

Addis Ababa, July 14, 2022 (Walta) – The Inter-ministerial Task Force established to look into the human rights abuses committed by warring forces in the conflict in northern Ethiopia has held its third round meeting.

According to information obtained from the Ministry of Justice, the Inter-ministerial Task Force held its third discussion on measures taken in relation to human rights violations taking place in the northern part of the country.

The Taskforce, in accordance with the recommendations of the joint investigation team by the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission to consider the Transitional Justice Options, a draft policy document was prepared and discussed by members of the task force said the ministry in a statement it released yesterday.

The details of the draft document are yet to be released.

It is to be recalled that the joint investigation has established that genocide has not been committed in the conflict while acknowledging the existence of human rights abuses.
