People Rally in Different Cities in Oromia to Denounce OLA’s Alliance with TPLF

Addis Ababa, August 18, 2021 (Walta) – People went to the street to denounce Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) alliance with Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in different cities in the Oromia Regional State of Ethiopia.

Both armed group have been designated as terrorist group by Ethiopian House of People Representatives.

Even though the federal government extended amnesty to armed groups residing outside and inside the country following the assent of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to power, OLA and TPLF rejected the political reform ushered in the country. Hence, they took arms to take central government power through the barrel of gun.  As a result of that the two groups designated as terrorist.

Recently the two terror groups announced an alliance to topple the central government through armed struggle.

The resident in different cities in Oromia regional state went to the street carrying slogans which denounce Shene, the local nomenclature for OLA.

The resident of Jima town carries slogan which say ‘Shene is Oromiffa speaking TPLF.’ while resident of Lega Tafo – Lega Dadi carries slogan which ‘Our freedom is attained through sacrifices. We will keep it the same way.’

The same rally is currently going on in Adama, Burayu, Sebeta, Bishoftu, Sulta, Bale Robe and many more small cities across the region.

TPLF has been removed from central government following popular uprising of the youth in different part of the country, specifically Amhara and Oromia.  The uprising was triggered by TPLF’s heavy exclusion of the two largest ethnic groups of the country from strategic political and economic decisions.  That called for a change in the way the government conduct its business. The youth paid unparalleled price to usher change in Ethiopia’s political system.

The people who are rallying now question why Shene dared to neglect the price paid by the Oromo youth at the hands of TPLF. That is why people are rallying to denounce Shene alliance with TPLF.
