Tourism Marketing, Promotion Committee Meets to Reflect on Achieved Results

Addis Ababa, May 20, 2021 (Walta) – The Steering Committee established to promote and market Ethiopian tourism last year met in the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia to discuss a nine-month performance report.

State Minister Tsion Teklu chaired the meeting and delivered a presentation on positive changes that have been registered after the committee was established last year in September.

Tsion emphasized that the tourism sector is one of Ethiopia’s top priority sectors and that a wide range of promotional activities should be carried out in consideration of the Diaspora and local tourists in addition to the usual targets in the sector.

Participants have held thorough discussions following the Ministry’s presentation on a nine-month performance report of the tourism sector.

The Chief Executive Officer at Tourism Ethiopia, Sileshi Girma informed the audience that the organization has launched three different websites aimed at increasing access to information for tourists.

According to Sileshi, the recruitment of tourism brand ambassadors representing Ethiopia in various countries was detailed and approved by the committee.

He also cited the Ethio-Djibouti and Ethio-Kenya Tourism Forums being undertaken in the tourism sector as indicators of the intention to create regional ties with the Horn of Africa regarding the sector.

The stakeholders also discussed the status and performance of the introductory brand “tena yestelegn” and the image building initiative, “Yene Ethiopia”.

The committee is comprised of 19 institutions and 39 members to facilitate tourism promotion and marketing.
