ANDM has rescued the struggle close to fail due to EPRP’s drawbacks

Addis Ababa, 20 November 2015(WIC) – The Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) has played a key role in the struggle to rescue the struggle for freedom that was close to fail due to failure of the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Party (EPRP), Press release from Government Communication Affairs Office said.

The press release sent to Walta noted that the 35th anniversary of ANDM shall be celebrated with a sense of strong commitment to repeat the victory in the struggle for freedom in areas of democratization and further economic leap forward.

ANDM separated itself from EPRP to lead the struggle via creating strong public base in the rural areas and had achieved its goal after prolonged and bitter struggle, the release noted.

The party has faced severe challenges from people with narrow and chauvinist tendencies that were trying to promote the ideologies of the former regime, it said. These groups have tried to tarnish the image of the party be creating different prejudice within the society since the transition period, the press release added.

These bodies have left no stone unturned to demean the party as if it is the brain child of another third party and does not represent the Amhara people despite the party’s glorious victory in the struggle against the military regime.

This is a moment for the party to successfully overcome all the present challenges together with its members, supporters and the rest of the society and once again show to the naysayers that the party is capable of withstanding any challenge on its way, the release noted.
Via strengthening the budding sense democratic nationalism among the Amhara people, the party shall strive to attain further growth and development in the region and contribute its share in the effort to ensure the country[‘s renaissance.
The Amhara people are now living a better life thanks to sacrifice paid by ANDM.

ANDM has also played a significant role in recording a double digit economy growth in the past 12 years at the national level.

It was noted that the region has attained strategic goals set internationally for food security and has maintained a 4 quintal production per head currently.

In urban areas, over 2 million citizens have become beneficiaries through job opportunities in small, micro and medium industries in the first GTP. It was also noted that 31 percent of the beneficiaries are females.

Previously, the road transport coverage was insignificant; currently, the road coverage has reached 9,400 kilometers both in asphalted and graveled roads.

In the region there was no university before 1991; currently the number of universities has reached seven, Walta learnt.
